We’ll be cycling roughly 100 miles a day as a group, or ‘peloton,’ if you will. We’ll camp in the evenings and then leave the following day at about 7am to get miles under our belt before the midday heat.
The Plan
We hope to keep up an average speed of about 14/15 miles per hour but this will obviously vary with terrain. The last day is roughly 20 miles shorter due to the rise in altitude leading up to and in the Alps. Training as a group for this will begin as soon as we have got hold of all our equipment, most likely in October, but from now until the event we will be building up the mileage of our rides, with the main challenge being able to get back in the saddle the following day.
Achieving goals
In order to achieve our goal of 100 miles per day, we will be riding racing/touring bikes and carrying as little equipment as we can get away with. The main bulk of our equipment will be carried by a support car which will accompany us through each stage. This is kindly done for us by our support crew.
Night stops
Nights will be spent camping at various camp sites which are on our route. Recovering will be an essential part of this trip so the more time spent here in the evening improves our efforts the following day.
Raising the money
In order to reach our target of £20,000, we will be holding various events in the preceeding 12 months, as well as encouraging personal pledges and business sponsors. Please check back regularly for new events or Donate Now.
Sponsors
Hopefully, by the time we leave in August 2009 we will have been supported and sponsored by a whole manner of individuals and organisations. Please check out our sponsors page for more details of these wonderful people.

How are we doing it?
