On a slightly overcast Saturday we, the Orchids, marched through the doors to the Lensbury Gym in Teddington and began to set up our event. After half an hour of getting organised, the bikes were in place, the banners up and what was left of the balloons (after a few bursting incidents) drifted aimlessly across the gym foyer.
At 8am sharp I jumped on the bike and started pedalling. A few minutes later, my first co-cyclist did the same. This was the start of 10 hours of cycling on the two bikes, which was to cover nearly 400 miles and raise just over £500. We were cycling for half an hour each, getting an average of about 9 miles done during that time.
What can I say? Marvellous, thats what.
I just want to say a massive thank you to the Lensbury Gym (Teddington) and the lovely people who gave us notes, coins, pledges and support throughout the day. You really made it a worthwhile day out for us and have helped us get that bit closer to our target. What a day.
After aiming for an average of 20mph, we managed a valiant 17.4mph, even after I had to leave early, forcing the other Orchids into a tighter half hour on, half hour off shift pattern which shows how well the other chaps were doing.
A special thanks to Adam for allowing us in, and to Nikki and the other staff for putting up with sweaty boys in their vicinity all day!
With exactly three weeks until we leave, this is an excellent boost having received so many kind words and encouraging sentiments. We hope everyone who saw us there enjoyed their meeting with the Orchids and we look forward to seeing you again soon!
Thanks a million guys!
